Mykonos is the most famous island in the whole of Greece and probably the most photographed along with the island of Santorini. The island welcomes people from all over the world and all walks of life, they all come to enjoy this beautiful and cosmopolitan island.

The capital of the island hora or Mykonos town is particularly charming and regarded by many to be the most beautiful Town in Greece. Its very typical of the Cyclades with its whitewashed cubic houses, flat roofs with blue doors and windows. Throughout the winding back streets you will see flowers on balconies in small pots everywhere you look, the people of Mykonos are proud of there town and do there best to keep it looking its best.

Many people choose to stay in or close to town, but if you want to be nearer the beach or just like it a little less noisy and hectic there are a number of other options. Plati Gialos is a popular choice, this gives you a lovely beach and the boat taxi point to the nearby bays. It also offers a regular bus service into Mykonos town which operates through the night in high season.


The main reasons for most visitors are the fantastic beaches and the wild and zany nightlife, however if you like to see some sites while on holiday maybe a trip over the islets of Delos and Rhenia. These where once Greece’s most important spiritual centres during ancient times.

In days gone by the accommodation was fairly simple with most visitors staying in small village rooms or family run pensions. However things have changed, the island offers accommodation to please every style and budget. There are still some small family run properties but the island now offers some of the best hotels in Greece with beautiful boutique style properties with the option to book a seaview suite with its own plunge pool. Then should it be a town hotel or something closer to one of the islands beautiful beaches. The advantage of the town is that you have everthing on your doorstep including numerous cafes, restaurants, bars and the wild nightlife that the island offers. To enjoy the beaches its easy, with good local bus transport to most of the islands popular beaches operating throughout the day. The beach hotels give the obvious advantage to be first on the beach each morning. The only major draw back for the beach areas is the return journey to your hotel after a late night out. It can be a long wait for a taxi from the main square, which can often be over an hour in high summer. The hotel prices on Mykonos are amongst the highest rates to be found in Greece, high season the nightly rate starts around 100 euro for a regular double going up to 2000-3000 euro per night for the best suites in the 5 star boutique properties.


Mykonos is the perfect holiday island, if you visit once you will be back.
